For the past two years Kelley Deal has been keeping herself busy with her band; recording, touring and working on side projects with the likes of Kris Kristofferson and Sebastian Bach (Skid Row).   I recently learned that the Breeders regrouped without Kelley and that she herself had another album coming out shortly.   I thought I'd Fax Nice Records with a few short questions and here's what Kelley and Mr. Todd Mund sent back via e-mail.

shane: I hear the Kelley Deal 6000 has a new album coming out soon and that the Breeders have reformed with Kim and Jim and two new people (Luis Lerma and Nate Farley (the Amps)), is that right?   I suspect it's full-on Kelley Deal 6000 now?
          Kelley: Yes, Yes and Yes.
shane: Are you in touch with Kim, Jim and Josephine and is everything friendly?
          Yes and Yes.
shane: I really liked Go To The Sugar Altar, what's the new album called and will it be just as good (similar in sound) or have you tried some new, drastically different things?
Boom! Boom! Boom!.   Takes off where Sugar Altar left you...
shane: I hypothesized that you noticeably were the twin that dug bluesy soul, psychedelia and 60s-styled pop, is that accurate (this is not necessarily the "influences" question)?
I am not the surf twin and she is not the other thing.   We share lots of influences like any sisters.
shane: I haven't had a chance to hear The Last Hard Men.   What can you tell me about them; such as how your four got together, how you met each and anything else you'd like to add.
Todd here, Kelley went to get a Mountain Dew®...   Without going into too much detail, Kelley wanted to sing a song with Sebastian... They then did a song ("Schools Out") for the Scream Soundtrack... Kelley paid for some extra studio time and they recorded and mixed 14 songs in four days.   As Far as Jimmy Flemion (Frogs) and Jimmy Chamberlin (ex-Smashing Pumpkins), Kelley just called them up and asked them if they were interested or not and they said yea.
shane: How come you started a label (I think that's great, I'm just curious), were you not able to release music on Elektra or 4AD because they weren't interested or contracts agreements through the Breeders expired?
Kelley here...   The reason why it's not on Electra or 4AD is because they were not interested, I started my own label because I didn't see the benefit in signing.
shane: What's it like running your own label? (feel free to be as graphic as possible, as I've been debating the idea myself)
Todd here, And I'm the boss at Nice Records.   I can't possibly type the answer to this question without writting a novel.   It's a lot of work.
shane: the Kelley Deal 6000 recently toured Europe, how did that go and were you well received?
Kelley: Europe went great.   Some shows were better than others but over all it was good.
shane: What's in the far-off future for Kelley Deal and the Kelley Deal 6000; What's in the near future?
The near future for TKD6K is, new album and then tour, tour, tour.   The far off future is... another album, tour, tour, tour...
shane: Have you all been in other bands?
Marty has never been in a band before this one, Nick has quit the band and Todd has been in a few bands.
shane: Were any of you "classically" trained?
Todd: NO! (Do we sound like it?)
shane: How did you all come together; How do you know eachother?
Kelley formed TKD6K with Marty, Nick and a guy named Jesse, four guitar players later, Todd joined the band.   Kelley met Marty at an A.A. meeting, she used Nick's drums in the studio and met Todd in treatment.
shane: Do any of you have "duties" with the label?
Yes, I help Kelley run the Label.
shane: Has the Kelley Deal 6000 paid your bills, and if not do you work day jobs and as what?
Kelley: No! Marty bar-backs at a club in Minneapolis when were home, Todd does construction work and helps with the label when were home and as we said before, Nick has quit and the new drummer (Todd Johnson) works at Chepo Disc.
shane: What's it like being in the band?
Todd: It's a lot of fun, we have a good time when we're together.
shane: Any bands you'd like to play with (open/headline)?
          Jimmy Hendrix
shane: Would you name some albums you've overplayed and why?
Kelley, Perez Prado, Steve Miller, Grifters...
shane: What would you be doing/like to be doing if not in a band?
          Working
shane: Anything else you'd like to add?
          My fingers hurt.
shane: Thanks a lot!   I'm looking forward to hearing the new album!
